Septic systems are designed to last
for several decades and process a significant amount of waste without
malfunctioning. Like all man-made installations, these septic systems require
regular maintenance and prompt repairs in order to function well. If the septic
tank system stops functioning, it can stall the entire plumbing and drainage
system, and make it unusable.
Signs
that the septic tanks need repairs
As the septic tanks are buried under
the ground, it’s easy to miss problems until the damage starts to show on the
surface above the tank. Here are some signs that property owners need to look
out for in order to avoid problems down the line:
·
Soggy ground – It's possible the tank has developed
a leak if the ground near the septic tank is always wet and soggy
·
Greener grass – Sewage matter is an excellent
fertilizer, which is why leakages can lead to patches or healthy green grass in
the lawn. If the grass is greener in some areas than in others, it’s a good
idea to call a repair expert and get the septic system inspected.
·
Bad odor – When the septic system is functional,
it doesn't cause any bad odor. All of the vapors are captured and released into
the air in a controlled fashion. If the septic system malfunctions, the sewage
odor escapes the confines of the tank unchecked and can spread throughout the
surrounding property.
·
Malfunctioning plumbing system – The plumbing system relies on the
septic tank to function properly. If the tank malfunctions, property owners
will face problems like the sewage water backing up, flooded basements, clogged
drains, etc.
